ST ANN, Jamaica — Two St Ann men have been formally charged in connection with the killing of a 21-year-old man who died after a violent confrontation earlier this month.
Facing charges of murder, conspiracy to murder, wounding with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony are 35-year-old taxi operator Lonni Jackson, also known as “Ackadat,” and 31-year-old Sheldon Allen, otherwise called “Tall Strap.” Both men are residents of St Ann.
The victim has been identified as Jordane Miller, also known as “Jay,” of the Retirement district in Browns Town.
According to investigators from the St Ann’s Bay Police, the incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7. Authorities report that Miller and Allen became involved in an altercation during which Allen allegedly used a machete to inflict a wound to Miller’s head.
Police say Allen later contacted Jackson, who arrived at the scene armed with a firearm. Jackson reportedly opened gunfire, striking Miller in the chest and face.
Both suspects fled the location following the shooting.
Law enforcement officers were summoned to the area and Miller was transported to hospital, where he later died while undergoing treatment.
Investigators subsequently arrested the two men after collecting statements from eyewitnesses. Police also indicated that caution statements allegedly given by the accused men were taken into account during the investigation.
A date for their court appearance is currently being arranged.
