ST. ANDREW, JAMAICA — Two men are in custody after allegedly impersonating police officers and being found with a prohibited weapon on Barbican Road, St. Andrew, on Monday, March 3.
According to police reports, around 4:15 p.m., members of the Traffic Enforcement Division of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB) noticed a Toyota Axio driving erratically with a flashing blue light. Suspicious of the vehicle, officers checked its registration through the Traffic Ticket Management System and found that it was not assigned to the Commissioner of Police.
The officers signaled the vehicle to stop, and upon compliance, one of the occupants exited, dressed in what appeared to be a Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) uniform. He wore a JCF baseball cap, a black long-sleeve shirt, and a less-lethal belt equipped with a JCF RCB baton, a handcuff pouch, and a bulge at his waist.
When questioned, the man claimed he was a police officer stationed in Spanish Town but failed to produce any identification. A search revealed an imitation pistol hidden in his waistband.
Officers then searched the vehicle and the second occupant before taking both men into custody on reasonable suspicion of impersonating the police and illegal firearm possession.
Their identities are being withheld as investigations continue.
