A tragic motor vehicle crash along the Seaforth main road in St Thomas on Tuesday night has claimed the lives of two men, including a police constable.
Dead are 25-year-old Keron Kellyman, who served in the Highway Patrol Division in the parish, and 31-year-old Dwight Robinson, an electrician from the White Hall district.
According to police reports, the incident unfolded around 10:45 p.m. when Kellyman was driving a Toyota Isis from Morant Bay towards Seaforth. At the same time, a Honda Accord was travelling in the opposite direction. Investigators say that upon reaching the vicinity of the Wyatt Housing Scheme, the Accord reportedly swerved in an attempt to avoid a pothole, crossing into the path of the oncoming vehicle.
The two vehicles collided head-on, causing the Toyota Isis to overturn and plunge into a nearby gully.
Kellyman sustained severe facial injuries and was pronounced dead at approximately 11:10 p.m. Robinson suffered extensive wounds, including a deep laceration from his forehead to his chin and right ear. He was later pronounced dead at 11:55 p.m.
Four other individuals involved in the crash sustained serious injuries. Two occupants of the Toyota Isis are reported to be in stable condition at the Princess Margaret Hospital. Meanwhile, two persons from the Honda Accord are undergoing surgery at the same facility, though their injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
