Parottee, St Elizabeth – Police in St Elizabeth seized an illegal firearm and arrested two Haitian women during an operation in Parottee on Thursday morning.
According to Superintendent Coleridge Minto, head of the St Elizabeth police, officers conducted the operation around 11:00 a.m. after receiving intelligence about suspicious activity at a premises in the area.
“Upon arrival, one man ran from the premises into a swampy area. Two females were detained and later confirmed to be Haitian nationals. A 9mm Browning pistol was also seized,” Minto reported.
The police conducted an extensive search of the location, but the man who fled has not yet been apprehended. This seizure is the third of its kind in recent days, raising concerns about illegal firearms in the parish.
Superintendent Minto is urging members of the public to assist law enforcement by providing any relevant information. “We continue to appeal to our citizens to share what they know by calling 119 or reaching out to the Black River CIB,” he said.
Investigations are ongoing as police seek to determine how the Haitian women arrived in the country and whether they are connected to any criminal activities.
Authorities are also continuing their search for the suspect who escaped.
