ST MARY, Jamaica — Two police officers and another man have been charged in connection with the murder of 59-year-old businessman Garfield Singh in Boscobel, St Mary.
Singh, who operated Singh’s Tyre Sales, Service and Repair, was gunned down at his home early Monday morning. According to police reports, residents heard loud banging followed by gunshots around 4:00 a.m. Moments later, gunmen were seen fleeing the scene, said Anthony Wallace, commanding officer of the St Mary Police Division. Police responded quickly and found Singh inside the house with gunshot injuries.
21-year-old Constable Qwaine Blake faces multiple charges, including murder, conspiracy to murder, use of a firearm to commit a felony, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession and stockpiling of ammunition, dealing in firearms and ammunition, possession of criminal property, and several breaches of the Road Traffic Act.
His colleague, 25-year-old Constable Daz Haynes, is charged with misprision of felony for allegedly knowing about the crime and attempting to cover it up.
The third accused is 19-year-old Tyrone Dacosta of Greater Portmore, St Catherine. Both officers are assigned to the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB).
Investigations into the shooting remain ongoing as the legal process moves forward.
