Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett has received the Global Tourism Resilience Lifetime Achievement Award at the 4th Global Tourism Resilience Day 2026, held at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi on February 17, 2026.
The award recognises Bartlett’s pioneering leadership in establishing global tourism resilience frameworks and advancing strategies for crisis preparedness and recovery. His work has been credited with positioning resilience as a key pillar of sustainable tourism development, helping destinations withstand and recover from natural disasters, pandemics, economic shocks, and other global disruptions.
Over the years, Minister Bartlett has championed international collaboration, policy innovation, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at safeguarding one of the world’s most vital economic sectors.
In his acceptance remarks, Bartlett reaffirmed his commitment to fostering tourism systems that empower communities, protect livelihoods, and drive long-term economic stability. He highlighted the importance of continued global cooperation in developing adaptive frameworks to respond to emerging challenges in an increasingly interconnected world.
“This award is testament to the enduring work we have been doing through the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre in Jamaica. I thank all our public and private partners who understand the importance of a resilient tourism industry,” he said.
Professor Waller, Executive Director of the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre, praised Bartlett’s efforts, noting that his initiatives have strengthened partnerships among governments, private stakeholders, and international institutions, promoting recovery, sustainability, and inclusive growth across tourism-dependent economies.
The Global Tourism Resilience Lifetime Achievement Award honours leaders whose contributions have made a transformative and lasting impact on the global tourism sector.
