St. James, Jamaica – !Detectives assigned to the Major Investigations Division (MID) have laid multiple serious charges against two individuals in connection with a brazen gun attack that left a woman dead, her policeman husband wounded, and their child nursing gunshot injuries.
CHARGED ARE:
- Trafficia Malcolm-Demontagnac, 38, otherwise called ‘Traff’, a businesswoman of Catherine Hall, St. James
- Kadean Nathan, 23, a plumber of Bethel Town, Westmoreland
The duo now face a raft of charges, including:
- Murder
- Wounding with intent
- Using a prohibited weapon to commit a felony
- Conspiracy to commit murder
- Conspiracy to commit wounding with intent
- Conspiracy to use a prohibited weapon to commit a felony
GUNMAN KILLED IN SHOOTOUT
A third suspect, Orlando Thomas, 24, a carpenter of Argyle Mount, Westmoreland, was fatally shot during a confrontation with lawmen on Wednesday, August 13.
THE DEADLY AMBUSH
The shocking incident unfolded on Saturday, August 9, along the Reading main road in Montego Bay. Reports are that 36-year-old Latoya Stephenson, of West Village, St. James, her policeman husband, and their child had gone to the location to collect a key from Thomas.
According to police, Thomas was driven to the scene by Nathan. After Stephenson exited her vehicle and retrieved the key, Thomas pulled a firearm and unleashed a hail of bullets, striking Stephenson, the officer, and their child.
The victims were rushed to hospital where Stephenson was pronounced dead. Her husband and child were admitted in serious condition.
CAPTURE AND CONFESSION
Malcolm-Demontagnac was captured on August 13 during a police operation in Burnt Ground, Ramble, Hanover. Days later, on Saturday, August 16, Nathan turned himself in to the police.
Both suspects reportedly gave caution statements outlining their roles in the deadly plot and were formally charged three days later.
A court date is being arranged.
