Police have launched an investigation following the mysterious disappearance of two bags of cash that reportedly fell from a Beryllium security vehicle on its way to Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. near the Rockfort Mineral Bath along Florizel Glasspole Boulevard, where a passing motorist allegedly saw the bags tumbling out of the courier truck.
Superintendent Tommilee Chambers, head of the Kingston Eastern police, confirmed the incident, but details surrounding the amount of money lost remain unclear. According to officials, the Beryllium vehicle was carrying a total of 48 bags containing cash, though the specific amount remains undisclosed.
Following the alert, security personnel examined the vehicle and discovered that the rear compartment of the truck was unlocked, raising questions about potential security oversights. Despite an extensive search of the area around Rockfort Mineral Bath, the two bags remain unaccounted for.
Nicolas Benjamin, deputy executive chairman of the Guardsman Group, which includes Beryllium, declined to comment on the ongoing situation.
Meanwhile, detectives from the Elletson Road Criminal Investigation Branch have opened a simple larceny probe, aiming to determine whether negligence or foul play may be involved in the missing cash incident.
