ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Police in the St Catherine North Division have arrested two men after a stolen taxi was discovered partially dismantled in Old Harbour.
Investigators say the vehicle, a Toyota Probox used as a public passenger vehicle, had been taken to a garage in Spanish Town weeks earlier due to transmission problems. The owner later became suspicious after repeated efforts to collect the car at the agreed time were unsuccessful. Subsequent checks revealed the vehicle was no longer at the repair location.
A report was filed with the police on March 8, 2026, triggering an investigation into the missing automobile. Acting on intelligence received, law enforcement officers carried out an operation in the Red Ground community of Old Harbour.
Upon arrival, the team reportedly found two men in possession of the vehicle, which had already been partially stripped. Police also observed that the public passenger vehicle licence plate had been removed and replaced with a private registration plate.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
