MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Two people were arrested and a firearm seized during a police operation at a bar in Newport, Manchester on Wednesday night.
Constable Aneisha Marshall, who is assigned to the Newport police station, reported that the incident occurred around 8:20 p.m. on Lime Tree Lane.
“Another firearm was taken off the streets of Manchester,” said Constable Marshall in an official audio release from the leadership of the Manchester police.
According to police, officers from the Newport station responded to a call about a loud disturbance at the bar. Upon arrival, they observed a man behaving suspiciously. The man reportedly dropped an object, which was later identified as a .45 9mm pistol with a magazine containing six live rounds.
Police later conducted a search of the suspect’s home, where they found an additional four .45 rounds.
Two suspects were taken into custody in connection with the incident. Their identities have not yet been released, and investigations are ongoing.
The Manchester police continue to urge community members to report suspicious activity and assist in efforts to reduce illegal firearms and violence in the parish.
