Tensions in the Middle East have intensified after United States President Donald Trump warned Iran against launching further attacks on Qatar, a key US ally in the Gulf region.
Speaking on Thursday, Trump cautioned that Washington could take drastic action, including targeting a major Iranian gas field, if Tehran repeats its recent strike on Qatari territory.
The warning follows reports that Israel carried out an attack on Iran’s South Pars gas field, which forms part of the largest natural gas reserve in the world. Israeli authorities have not publicly confirmed responsibility for the operation.
In response, Iranian forces reportedly struck an energy facility in Qatar, causing significant damage and triggering a surge in global energy prices.
President Trump stated that the United States had no prior knowledge of Israel’s alleged actions. He suggested that Israel’s move may have been driven by ongoing frustrations linked to broader developments in the region.
The latest developments come amid continued instability across the Middle East, following large-scale military strikes launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28.
Regional tensions remain high as diplomatic and military responses continue to unfold.
