Manchester, Jamaica — A truck driver was hospitalized Thursday morning after being pinned between two trucks for two hours following a three-vehicle crash on the Spur Tree Hill main road in Manchester.
Firefighters and police worked tirelessly to extricate the driver from his vehicle, which was wedged between two other trucks after a collision.
The accident, which occurred shortly before 9:00 am, involved two box trucks and a fuel truck, creating a significant traffic disruption in the area. Preliminary investigations suggest that one of the box trucks, traveling downhill, lost control and collided with the rear of the second box truck, causing a chain reaction that pushed the second truck into the fuel truck ahead.
Emergency services were quick to respond, with an ambulance transporting the injured driver to Mandeville Regional Hospital. His condition remains unclear, but authorities are optimistic about his recovery.
The crash left the major thoroughfare impassable for hours, and the police issued a travel advisory for motorists. Traffic was diverted with instructions for drivers traveling from St. Elizabeth to Manchester to take alternative routes through Gutters, Plouden, Cross Keys, and New Port.
The Spur Tree Hill road, notorious for its steep incline and frequent truck-related accidents, has long been a challenge for both motorists and authorities. This incident is another in a series of accidents on the highway, underscoring the risks posed by heavily loaded, slow-moving trucks.
