Kingston, Jamaica — Despite initial concerns, Tropical Storm Beryl is now projected to pass over 150 miles away from Jamaica’s coastline next Wednesday, according to the Meteorological Service of Jamaica (Met Service). However, the Met Service still advises all Jamaicans to brace for potential impacts and prepare accordingly.
The National Hurricane Center’s latest bulletin reports that Beryl is expected to rapidly intensify into a major hurricane by late Sunday night or Monday as it approaches the Windward Islands. This escalation could bring devastating hurricane-force winds and life-threatening storm surges to the region.
A hurricane watch is currently in effect for much of the Windward Islands, with heavy rainfall and potential flooding forecasted for Sunday night and Monday.
The National Hurricane Center also cautions that those in the central and western Caribbean should stay informed about Beryl’s progression. Despite the storm’s projected path, it is essential for residents to remain vigilant and prepared for any changes in the forecast.
