Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago — A municipal police officer is expected to be formally charged with murder following a deadly attack at a police station that left a fellow officer dead and triggered nationwide concern over internal security within law enforcement.
The victim has been identified as Acting Corporal Anusha Eversley, who was killed while on duty during the weekend incident. Early investigations suggest the attack was carried out from within, rather than by outside criminals—raising serious questions about trust and oversight inside the police service.
Weapons Stolen in Major Breach
Authorities confirmed that a large cache of weapons and ammunition was stolen from the station, including:
- Pistols and shotguns
- A submachine gun
- Hundreds of rounds of ammunition
Some of the stolen items have since been recovered, but officials say the breach represents a significant lapse in security protocols.
Charges Being Prepared
The 28-year-old suspect is expected to face multiple charges, including:
- Murder
- Robbery with violence
- Firearms trafficking
- Possession of ammunition
The charges follow guidance from the Director of Public Prosecutions as investigators build their case.
Ongoing Investigation
Police report that around 10 individuals, including a minor, are currently in custody. Investigators are examining whether the attack involved a wider network and if additional suspects may be implicated.
Calls for Reform
Senior officials have described the incident as a serious internal betrayal, prompting urgent calls for reforms in:
- Police vetting procedures
- Firearm storage and tracking
- Station security measures
Authorities have pledged full accountability, stressing that no one involved will be shielded from prosecution.
The case continues to develop and is being closely monitored across the region, as it underscores the dangers of internal corruption within law enforcement agencies.
