Trelawny Man Dies After Choking During Bun Eating Contest in Manchester

MANCHESTER, Jamaica — A 37-year-old farmer from Trelawny has died after choking while participating in a bun-eating contest held in Christiana on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Kerron Powell of Litchfield district. Reports from the police indicate that the incident occurred around midday during the competition, which involved three participants.

Authorities say Powell reportedly began choking and vomiting during the event, prompting an emergency response. He was rushed to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators have classified the case as death by misadventure, with initial findings suggesting that asphyxiation may have been the cause.

The incident has drawn attention following widespread circulation on social media, as police continue their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
