St James, Jamaica – The district of Bugs Bunny, Lilliput, is in shock after the death of 13-year-old Twaine Jaheem Skyers, a Hopewell High School student.
Police say the teen’s body was found Thursday evening in the bathroom of his home. He had reportedly locked himself inside after being punished for getting home late from school.
Investigators believe the incident may be a case of suicide.
Reports are that Skyers lived with his mother and aunt. He was expected home by 5:00 p.m. after classes ended at 2:40 p.m., but returned after 6:00 p.m., leading to the punishment.
His mother discovered the body about 7:30 p.m. and raised an alarm.
Residents described the boy as playful and loving. Community members and relatives gathered at the house on Friday, offering support to the grieving family.
Officials from Hopewell High confirmed that Skyers attended the school but declined further details, citing ministry protocol.
Some residents questioned whether the curfew set for the youngster was fair, given the three-bus journey from Hanover to St James.
