Montego Bay, St. James – The police are warning motorists to brace for major traffic disruptions in and around Sam Sharpe Square, as the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) stages its highly anticipated public mass rally in downtown Montego Bay this weekend.
The traffic changes will begin at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, August 22, and remain in effect until 5:00 a.m. on Monday, August 25, to accommodate preparations and the expected large turnout for the political event.

Friday, August 22 – 10:00 p.m. to Monday, August 25 – 5:00 a.m.
- Sam Sharpe Square – from St James Street onto Market Street
- Church Street and St James Street intersection
- Lawrence Lane and St James Street intersection
Saturday, August 23 – 10:00 p.m. to Monday, August 25 – 5:00 a.m.
- St James Street at Corner Lane – preventing access into Sam Sharpe Square
Sunday, August 24 – 7:00 a.m. to Monday, August 25 – 5:00 a.m.

Police recommend the following alternate routes to avoid congestion:
- Barnett Street to Howard Cooke Boulevard
- Orange Street to Paradise Rowe to North Street, continuing onto Meagre Bay Road, then Harbour Street and Howard Cooke Boulevard
Designated Parking Areas
Motorists are advised to park in the following areas:
- Transportation Centre, Creek Street
- Municipal Car Park, Harbour Street
- Harbour City Car Park
- Along Harbour Street
- In the vicinity of City Centre
Police Urging Cooperation
Law enforcement officers will be strategically deployed across the city to assist with traffic flow, crowd control, and public safety.
“We’re urging all motorists to cooperate with the police, follow instructions, and plan ahead,” a police spokesperson told McKoy’s News.
“Your patience and discipline will ensure a smooth event for everyone.”
This advisory comes as thousands are expected to converge on Sam Sharpe Square on Sunday, August 24, for the JLP’s 2025 Election Manifesto launch, under the theme “I Choose Jamaica: The Next Chapter.”
