St Andrew, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Tower Street Inmate Shot Dead: An inmate of the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre who tried to escape custody while on a medical visit to the National Chest Hospital in St Andrew, was shot and killed, according to reports from the office of the Department of Correctional Services.

A report received by the DCS is the inmate, who was serving a life sentence, was being treated at the NCH by a doctor who requested that the handcuffs be removed to facilitate better handling of the patient for treatment.

“Following the removal of the handcuffs, the inmate tried to escape and was shot by a correctional officer,” the DCS said. The police and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) are investigating the matter.
