Jamaica Crime News, Westmoreland: A man who the Westmoreland police labels as a top gangster and who the lawmen say was being sought for breaching his bail condition, was slapped with charges on Monday, June 11, after he was caught in possession of an illegal firearm on Saturday, June 9, 2018.
The accused has been identified as Ansert Lawrence, otherwise called “English”, who hails from the Russia area of Savanna-la-mar also in Westmoreland.
Reports by the police are that about 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, a joint military team was carrying out operations in the Russia area when Lawrence was spotted and apprehended. A search was carried out of his person which led to the discovery of a Smith and Wesson 9mm semi-automatic pistol loaded with several live rounds.
The accused was taken into custody and subsequently charged with Illegal Possession of Firearm and Ammunition and Robbery. The police also stated that Lawrence plays a major role in crimes around the parish and has close ties to the Dexta Street gang.
