KINGSTON, Jamaica — King’s Counsel Tom Tavares-Finson has been re-appointed as President of the Senate, retaining the top post during the ceremonial opening of Parliament on Thursday.
Tavares-Finson was formally nominated by Senator Kamina Johnson Smith of the governing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), with the motion seconded by Senator Donna Scott-Mottley from the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP).
Following the bipartisan nod, Tavares-Finson took the oath of allegiance to resume his duties as presiding officer of the Upper House.
New Deputy Named
Also announced during Thursday’s proceedings was the appointment of Senator Charles Sinclair as Deputy President of the Senate, stepping into the role to support the chamber’s leadership as the new legislative year gets underway
