A two-year-old girl died in Kitson Town, St Catherine, on Tuesday after she was struck by a car being driven by her father in their yard.
The child has been identified by police as Cahiera Scarlett of Friendship Housing Scheme in the area.
According to police, the incident happened at about 8:30 a.m. while the child was at home with her father. A passing motorcycle reportedly emitted a loud sound from its muffler, startling the toddler.
Police said the child ran towards her father, who was driving a car at the time. The man reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which struck the girl and caused her to hit a wall, resulting in head injuries.
The injured child was taken to Spanish Town Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The Guanaboa Vale police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
