Westmoreland, Jamaica — Three of the four men shot dead in an alleged confrontation with the Jamaica Constabulary Force in Negril Square, Westmoreland, on Friday have been identified.
The incident, which involved a shootout between law enforcement and the suspects, also led to the arrest of six other individuals, including one man who was injured and taken into custody. This individual is reportedly from Greenvale in Manchester.
Among the deceased is 34-year-old Nickhali Delevante from Waterford, Portmore, St. Catherine. Delevante was out on $200,000 bail for the shooting of a police inspector in Old Harbour, St. Catherine, last year, and was also charged for robbing an ATM during the same period. The other identified men are 37-year-old Caval Smith from Cave District and 29-year-old Ankar Vincent Forrest from Geneva District in Grange Hill, both in Westmoreland.
Following the confrontation, police seized a cache of firearms, including two M16 rifles, one AK-47 assault rifle, two pistols, and a revolver. Additionally, authorities recovered fifty 7.62 rounds (used in AK-47s), sixty-five 5.56 rounds (used in M16s), forty-five 9mm rounds, five .38 rounds, three M16 magazines, two AK-47 magazines, and two 9mm magazines.
According to police reports, the operation took place between 6 am and 10 am, during which law enforcement, acting on intelligence, intercepted multiple vehicles, resulting in the deadly shootout. Remarkably, none of the officers were injured during the incident.
The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shootout and the involvement of the suspects in other criminal activities. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
