Three men have been formally charged for the brutal rape and murder of 15-year-old Jamelia Cole and the violent assault of three female relatives in Trelawny in August of the previous year.
The accused are 23-year-old Timoy ‘Big Red’ Brown from Cotton Tree district, 22-year-old Tyrese ‘Sheetsman’ Brown from Albert Town, and 20-year-old Jabean ‘Nuko’ Brock, a laborer from Stettin district. The men face multiple charges, including capital murder, conspiracy to commit burglary, and rape.
According to police reports, the attack occurred on August 6, when the three suspects allegedly broke into the victims’ home in Albert Town around 7 a.m. They entered through a kitchen window, where four females, including 15-year-old Cole, were present. The men allegedly struck three of the women on the head with a blunt object, rendering them unconscious. The fourth occupant, a 9-year-old girl, was asleep during the assault.
Upon waking to the commotion, the young girl contacted her father, who instructed her to seek help from neighbors. They quickly alerted the police. When authorities arrived, they discovered the unconscious women and found the body of Jamelia Cole, who had allegedly been raped, beaten, and left tied up in a nearby yam field. Cole was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the other women received medical treatment and were later released.
The investigation led to the arrest of Tyrese Brown on August 19, after he was found driving a stolen vehicle. Timoy Brown and Jabean Brock were apprehended in their respective communities and were charged after a question-and-answer session with their attorneys present. The Trelawny Criminal Investigation Branch continues to investigate the case and urges anyone with additional information to come forward.
