Dr. Nigel Clarke, Jamaica’s Minister of Finance, is set to step down to assume the role of Deputy Managing Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), effective October 31, 2024. This historic appointment marks the first time a Jamaican, Caribbean, or Central American citizen has held such a high position in the IMF’s 80-year history.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness expressed immense pride in a Facebook post, congratulating Dr. Clarke on the achievement and emphasizing its significance for Jamaica and the broader Caribbean region.
The Jamaican government has already identified a successor to ensure a seamless transition in the Finance Ministry.
