Three Charged in Connection with Liam Payne’s Death, Self-Harm Ruled Out

Buenos Aires, Argentina – Three people are facing criminal charges related to the tragic death of Liam Payne, the former One Direction member, who died on October 16 after falling from the third floor of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires. Argentine authorities have ruled out self-harm, suggesting Payne may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident.

Payne was visiting Argentina to support his former bandmate, Niall Horan, who was scheduled to perform nearby. Hours before his fall, Payne shared videos on social media showing him in good spirits while enjoying time with friends. However, a 911 call from the hotel shortly before his death described a man behaving aggressively, potentially under the influence of substances. Police responding to the call later found Payne’s body in the hotel courtyard, and paramedics confirmed his death at the scene. Autopsy results revealed Payne sustained “multiple trauma” and severe internal injuries from the fall  .

During the investigation, police discovered narcotics and alcohol in Payne’s hotel room, though toxicology reports are still pending. Authorities initially questioned five people, including hotel staff and two women who had reportedly left the room before the incident. Three individuals have now been charged with “crimes of abandonment of a person followed by death” and narcotics-related offenses .

Payne’s family expressed heartbreak over the loss, describing him as kind and humorous, and have requested privacy. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to piece together the exact circumstances surrounding Payne’s tragic fall.
