HANOVER, Jamaica — A third man implicated in the abduction of a teacher in Westmoreland has been fatally shot during a reported confrontation with the police in Pell River, Hanover.
The deceased has been identified as Omar Johnson. Police say he was killed around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday night during an operation based on intelligence.
According to reports, law enforcement personnel went to a premises in Pell River, where they encountered Johnson. He was reportedly asked to surrender peacefully but refused. A confrontation allegedly followed, during which Johnson was shot and killed.
An illegal firearm and ammunition were reportedly seized at the scene.
Johnson was among three men implicated in the brazen abduction of a female teacher in Westmoreland. The other suspects — 21-year-old Kevin Gordon, otherwise called ‘Josh,’ and 27-year-old Christopher Williams, otherwise called ‘Bubba’ — were killed earlier during a confrontation with the police as they attempted to rescue the teacher.
The teacher had reportedly been dragged from her vehicle after the suspects used a log to block the road. She was then taken to a location in Hanover, where she was found and rescued unharmed by police.
Gordon, who was out on bail for a 2023 murder, and Williams were both fatally shot during the rescue operation.
Investigators believe the abduction was ordered by a high-ranking member of the Kings Valley gang, who is currently behind bars.
The case remains under active investigation.
