May Pen, Clarendon, Jamaica – April 6, 2025 – A 56-year-old bus driver from Longville Park, Clarendon, has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged abduction and sexual assault of a teenage girl who was a passenger on his bus.
Leroy Powell, also known as ‘Jimmy’, was formally charged on Friday with abduction of a child under 16 and grievous sexual assault, according to police reports from the May Pen station.
The allegations stem from an incident that reportedly occurred on Tuesday, April 02, at approximately 4:00 p.m. Police reports indicate that the teenage girl boarded a coaster bus operated by Powell in Clarendon. After dropping off the other passengers, Powell allegedly sexually assaulted the young girl inside the vehicle.Following the alleged assault, Powell reportedly left the teenager near her home. The victim subsequently informed a family member about the incident, and a formal report was lodged with the May Pen police.
Acting on the report, law enforcement officials apprehended Powell on Friday, April 4. He was taken into custody, questioned, and subsequently charged with the aforementioned offences.
While the police have confirmed the arrest and charges, details surrounding the investigation remain ongoing. Powell’s court date is currently being finalised, and further information will be released as it becomes available.
