Jamaica Crime News, Kingston: Investigators attached to the August Town Police Station have reported that the17-year-old teenage driver and his 18-year-old friend, who were both involved in the fatal crash which claimed the life of a 9-year-old girl on Friday, July 20, still remains in police custody.
The 17-year-old, who was behind the steering wheel and his18-year-old friend who was a joy ride passenger, are presently still being questioned in connection to the accident which claimed the life of 9-year-old, Geana Leathing at her home in Escarpment Road Community, August Town.
Reports by the police are that about 2:20 p.m. on Friday, the 17-year-old accused took the keys to his father’s blue 2005, Mitsubishi Conter motor truck and invited his 18-year-old friend for a joy ride in August Town.
On reaching a section of the Escarpment Road community, the 17-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into a family house, occupied by the 9-year-old victim and other family members.
The impact of the crash destroyed the board and concrete structured dwelling house. 9-year-old Geana and four other family members sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital, where the child was pronounced dead and the four other victims admitted.
The police have also pointed out that, the teenage driver had no drivers license, neither was the vehicle allegedly licensed or insured.
It is also alleged that, the teenage boy and his friend may have been driving under the influence of alcohol. The police also stated that, they have also questioned the father to see whether he had knowledge of the teenager being in possession of his truck.
