St James, Jamaica: The police in Montego Bay, St. James, are reporting that an armed man who was fatally shot by members of the security forces at Dump, in Retirement, St. James, on Thursday morning, has been identified as one of the men who made an attempt on the life of the New Acting Commissioner of Police for Area One, Senior Superintendent Glenford Miller.
The deceased has been identified as Akeem Bowen, a labourer also of Dump, in Retirement.
Reports by the police indicate that shortly after midnight, a joint police/military team acting upon intelligence went to a house occupied by Bowen.
According to the police, upon reaching the premises, they called out to the suspect and identified themselves as lawmen, but they were fired upon by Bowen.
The police reported that the fire was returned, resulting in the accused being shot and killed.
A Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol fitted with a magazine containing several rounds of ammunition was taken from him.
Bowen was positively identified as one of the men who fired several shots at the Assistant Commissioner of Police and a Police Constable in the White House area on Wednesday night.
Reports indicate that shortly after 9:00 p.m., the ACP was being transported in an unmarked government vehicle from Montego Bay towards Rosehall when they noticed a minibus following them.
Upon reaching a section of Kent Avenue in the Whitehouse area, the bus drove past and blocked their path, and immediately the ACP and his driver jumped from their vehicle and took evasive actions.
Bowen and several armed men who were traveling in the bus opened fire at the officers before speeding away, making good their escape.
