The police High Command has reported that following last week’s jail break in Black River, St Elizabeth, where eight prisoners managed to escape custody, two police officers have been interdicted, while Commanding Officer for the parish, Superintendent Kenneth Chin, has been relieved of his duties.
Chin who will take up duties at Area 5 Headquarters, will make way for Deputy Superintendent of Police, Coleridge Minto, who will now assume duties as Commanding Officer for the parish of St Elizabeth.
Also, the police High Command has indicated that, the police administration in Black River, the Operations Officer and officers in all supervisory posts, has been relieved of their duties to facilitate an investigation being conducted by the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau.
In the meanwhile, the police says a high volume manhunt is still taking place to apprehend the escaped prisoners.
The police say it was discovered during checks on Monday morning, that at least eight prisoners escaped custody.
Reports are that about 4:00am, a station guard was conducting regular routine checks of the cells, when he discovered that the the men in that particular cell had managed to cut their way through a ventilation system, and made good their escaped.
An emergency meeting was immediately called following the discovery, and a manhunt launched in a bid to capture the men.
