KINGSTON, Jamaica—Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls defeated the England Roses 61-53 in the fourth and final game of the Horizon Series on Tuesday, clinching a 2-1 series victory.
The Sunshine Girls displayed remarkable resilience after falling behind 0-1 during the England leg of the series. On Monday, they evened the score with a narrow 50-49 win at the National Indoor Sports Centre, setting the stage for a gripping finale.
Tuesday’s decisive match saw the Sunshine Girls unleash their full potential, led by an outstanding performance from Romelda Aiken-George, who tallied an impressive 40 goals from 43 attempts. Shanice Beckford also contributed significantly, scoring 21 goals from 25 attempts.
England’s Liv Tchine fought valiantly, netting 42 goals from 47 attempts, while teammate Louis Pearson added 11 from 13.
The Roses began the game with a commanding 8-3 lead, ending the first quarter ahead 15-11. However, the Sunshine Girls rallied in the second quarter, leveling the score at 21-21 before surging ahead 28-26 at halftime.
The third quarter intensified with both teams trading blows, but the Sunshine Girls emerged with a narrow 42-39 advantage. In the final quarter, they displayed their trademark grit and composure to secure a well-deserved 61-53 victory.
