Gas Tanker Driver Arrested After Loaded Gun Seized During Traffic Stop in Kingston

Kingston, Jamaica – A gas tanker driver was arrested on Tuesday morning after a loaded gun was discovered during a routine traffic stop on Michael Manley Boulevard, Kingston.

The driver, whose identity is being withheld pending further investigation, was taken into custody after police seized a Glock pistol and a magazine containing sixteen 9mm cartridges. The arrest occurred around 7:00 a.m. when officers from the Elletson Road Police Station were conducting routine patrols in the area.

According to the police, the driver was initially stopped for committing breaches under the Road Traffic Act. However, as the officers interacted with the motorist, his behavior raised suspicions. Police say the driver began acting in a manner that prompted them to conduct a search of the vehicle, leading to the discovery of the firearm.

The gun, along with the ammunition, was seized, and the driver was immediately arrested. He is currently being held in custody while further investigations continue.

The police have not yet disclosed any further details about the suspect’s background or the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm.
