Student Burnt to Death by Step-father who Later Committed Suicide in Clarendon

Jamaica Crime News, Clarendon: 14-year-old, Leroy Hamilton, a student who attended the Central High School in Clarendon was burnt to death by his stepfather, who later took his own life on Wednesday morning, October 31.

The accused 42-year-old Kayon Lawrence, also severely chopped the student’s mother and grandmother, before setting the house on fire.

Reports by the police are that in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, Lawrence got involved in a domestic dispute with Hamilton’s mother at their home in Stewarton Gully, Mocho, Clarendon.

During the dispute,  Lawrence armed himself with a machete and chopped his common-law wife multiple times to her upper body.

He then attacked her elderly mother, who he also chopped severely. The deranged man set the house on fire while the 14-year-old student lay asleep in bed.

He then ran from the house and escaped in the area. Residents in the area raised an alarm and alerted the police, who managed to rescue the two wounded females from the blaze.

The section of the house where the student had his room was quickly engulfed into flames and he was burnt to death.

Angry residents of the community then went in search of the accused and later found his body hanging from a sill of his house,which was at another section of the community.
