KINGSTON, Jamaica — Gusty conditions linked to a passing cold front have disrupted electricity service in several areas across the island, prompting active restoration efforts by the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS).
According to a statement issued Tuesday by JPS, customers in sections of Hanover, St Ann, the Corporate Area, St Catherine, and Clarendon experienced outages as high winds impacted the power network.
The utility provider reported that response teams have been mobilized and are carrying out repairs where weather conditions permit. Chief Operating Officer Lance Becca said crews worked late into Monday night to restore service and have since made steady progress in reconnecting affected communities.
JPS said it is continuing to prioritize restoration work and is aiming to return supply to customers as quickly and safely as possible.
Members of the public are being advised to remain cautious around downed poles or damaged wires and to treat all fallen lines as live. The company is encouraging customers to report outages and electrical hazards through the JPS mobile app, via its social media platform @myjpsonline, or by calling the customer care centre at 888-CALL-JPS (888-225-5577 for Flow customers and 888-935-5577 for Digicel customers).
