A Kansas City, Missouri man is facing multiple felony charges after prosecutors say he repeatedly sold the same vehicle to different buyers through Facebook Marketplace and then reclaimed it shortly after each sale.
Court documents indicate the 24-year-old accused conducted a scheme in which at least eight individuals paid for vehicles that were later reported stolen within hours or a day of purchase. Authorities allege the suspect would provide what appeared to be valid paperwork at the time of sale before repossessing the vehicles and relisting them online.
Jackson County prosecutors have filed 14 felony counts, including first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle and forgery-related offences. If convicted on all counts, the combined maximum sentence could total up to 98 years behind bars.
Investigators say the incidents occurred over several weeks, with multiple victims reporting similar transaction patterns tied to Facebook Marketplace listings. Detectives later connected the sales to a single seller profile and reopened reports involving the same vehicles.
The accused was taken into custody and is being held on a cash-only bond. Additional holds from other jurisdictions have also been reported.
The matter remains before the court, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
