A man sought for the June 18 murder of a police constable on interdiction by the Jamaica Constabulary Force was fatally shot by members of the security forces in Manchester on Monday morning.
The deceased, identified as Cary Douglas, also known as ‘Stickman’ of Buttock Prospect in Manchester, was wanted for the murder of Constable Mario Thomas. Thomas was found shot to death at Breezy Hill in Comfort district last Wednesday morning.
Douglas was shot dead around 2:45 a.m. after engaging the police in a shootout in his community. A 9mm semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing five live 9mm rounds was recovered from him.
Reports indicate that around 10:30 p.m., Thomas was at a shop in Comfort district, Manchester, when a man later identified as Douglas, entered wearing a hoodie. Sensing danger, Thomas fled the location. Douglas then drew a handgun and pursued Thomas in the darkness, firing several rounds at him.
The following morning, residents discovered Thomas’s bullet-riddled body and alerted the police.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officers processed the scene, and the body was removed to the morgue for a post-mortem examination.
It was revealed that several attempts had been made on Constable Thomas’s life in recent months, which worsened after his firearm license was revoked.
Constable Thomas had also been accused of involvement in a supermarket robbery in Porus, Manchester, where two people were shot and killed.
