Stephany Bilecki: Alaska Mother Sentenced to 130 Years in Prison for Killing Two Infant Daughters

Fairbanks, Alaska – A 29-year-old Alaska mother has been sentenced to 130 years in prison for the murders of her two infant daughters. Stephany Bilecki pleaded guilty in August to two counts of second-degree murder and was sentenced on December 9th.

In 2015, Bilecki reported that her 4-month-old daughter, Chyanne, had died suddenly. While the initial cause of death was ruled as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), further investigation revealed injuries consistent with suffocation.

Tragically, a similar incident occurred two years later in 2017 when Bilecki reported that her 13-month-old daughter, Jasmine, was unresponsive. Jasmine was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

An investigation into Jasmine’s death led authorities to re-examine Chyanne’s death. Police discovered that Bilecki had conducted internet searches shortly before reporting Jasmine unresponsive, including terms such as “Ways to suffocate” and “How to commit the perfect murder.”

An autopsy determined that Jasmine died of complications of anoxia, a lack of oxygen to the brain.

Fairbanks District Attorney Joe Dallaire expressed his dismay at the “shocking” nature of Bilecki’s crimes. “Although we cannot pretend that anything will ever make up for the losses suffered by the fathers of these babies or their other family members, I do hope the convictions and the sentences imposed affords some measure of justice to the families of Jasmine and Chyanne and to the Fairbanks community at large,” Dallaire stated.
