State Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Alando Terrelonge, will lead the opening session of the 2026 Jamaica Diaspora Northeast USA Conference, beginning Friday, October 23, in Philadelphia.
The two-day conference takes place at Temple University under the theme “One Diaspora, One Vision: Advancing Jamaica Together”. It will bring together government officials, entrepreneurs, investors, educators, healthcare workers and community representatives to examine the diaspora’s contribution to Jamaica’s development.
Terrelonge, who has responsibility for Diaspora Affairs, will join Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Brian Wallace, to discuss “The State of Jamaica and the Role of the Northeast Diaspora”.
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker, Jamaica’s chargé d’affaires in Washington, DC, Lishann Salmon, and Consul General in New York, Oliver Mair, are scheduled to deliver opening remarks.
Michelle Tulloch-Neil, conference planning committee chair and Global Jamaica Diaspora Council representative for the northeastern United States, will provide an overview of the programme.
Discussions will cover trade and investment, entrepreneurship, healthcare, education, immigration, public safety, human trafficking awareness, shipping, customs and artificial intelligence.
Participants will also explore opportunities for mentorship, youth leadership development, public-private partnerships and sustainable community projects.
The opening day will include a business leaders’ luncheon and dialogue focused on investment, business development and closer economic ties between Jamaica and its diaspora.
Young professionals representing seven universities across the northeastern United States are expected to participate, creating opportunities to connect emerging leaders with mentors and professional networks.
Mair will deliver the keynote address on Saturday, October 24, under the title “Together, We Go Far: Building a Stronger Jamaica Through Diaspora Collaboration”.
The gathering follows the inaugural Northeast Diaspora Conference held in Philadelphia in June 2025.
