 St Thomas, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Fees at St Thomas Technical School Shock ParentsSome fees being charged for the new school term at St Thomas Technical High School is causing serious concern among parents. There is a  near 100 per cent increase in the School Development Fund, from $3,500 to $6,500.

The parents also report that there is a new policy which requires all students to pay a fee of $2,000 before they receive a registration package.

The registration package contains a bank voucher, a book list and a medical form.The parents say the additional charges are unjust and are demanding the intervention of the Ministry of Education.

Education Minister Senator Ruel Reid has warned schools to abide by the ministry’s policy which declares that there should be no mandatory fees charged to parents. The minister’s reminder is in response to concerns raised by parents whose children attend St. Thomas Technical High school.

Senator Reid said the parents are not obligated to pay the fees if they can’t afford it.
