St Andrew, Jamaica – A 23-year-old resident of St Thomas has been formally charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a man inside his home in Bull Bay, St Andrew, earlier this year.
Antony Barrett, otherwise known as “Hilux” and “Country,” of Leith Wall, St Thomas, has been charged with murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony.
Barrett is accused of killing 34-year-old electrician and taxi operator Joudan Hutchinson, who resided at Hope Hill in Bull Bay. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, April 11.
According to police reports, the chain of events began on Thursday, April 10, when an argument broke out between Hutchinson, Barrett, and another man. During the altercation, Hutchinson was struck with a shovel, sustaining injuries that required hospital treatment.
However, upon Hutchinson’s discharge the following day, police say Barrett went to his home at approximately 1:20 a.m. and opened fire, shooting him multiple times.
Hutchinson was rushed to hospital by police but was pronounced dead on arrival.
After weeks of investigation, Barrett was apprehended on Saturday, May 24, and formally charged on Thursday, May 29. A court date is currently being arranged.
The police continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
