District Constable Lennox Lawood has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm following an investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
Lawood appeared before the St Thomas Parish Court by way of a summons on Wednesday.
The charge stems from an incident along Seaforth main road in St Thomas on December 22, 2025. According to INDECOM, the complainant alleged that the officer slapped him in the face without provocation.
The commission said CCTV footage obtained during its investigation corroborated the complainant’s allegation concerning the officer’s use of force.
The court recommended that an assessment be conducted and a report prepared to help determine whether Lawood is fit to plead.
The matter is scheduled to return to court on December 14.
