St Mary Man Electrocuted While Trimming Tree in Enfield

A 46-year-old man from St Mary tragically died after being electrocuted while trimming a tree on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Leighton Merchant, a resident of Fort Stewart district.

According to reports from the Annotto Bay police, the incident occurred around 8:25 a.m. while Merchant was trimming a tree in Enfield, a community in Annotto Bay, when he accidentally came into contact with high-tension electrical wires. The jolt of electricity caused him to be electrocuted instantly.

Emergency services were alerted to the scene, and Merchant was transported to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, upon arrival, he was pronounced dead.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
