St James Woman Appears in Court on Lottery Scamming Charges

St James, Jamaica – Sashlee Campbell, a St James resident, made her first appearance in the parish court on Wednesday, facing charges related to possession of identity information connected to lottery scamming. The case, presided over by Judge Gary Reid, stems from an investigation dating back to 2021.

Campbell, who appeared in court charged with possession of identity information, was allegedly linked to lottery scamming activities. The charges arise from a search conducted on May 27, 2021, at her residence in Rhynie Park, St James, where she lives with her common-law spouse and three children.

According to court documents, a search warrant led to the seizure of several electronic devices, including a white Apple iPad, which Campbell identified as hers under caution. The iPad, examined with Campbell’s permission, was found to contain hundreds of pieces of identity information from individuals residing overseas. The device was subsequently sent to a forensic laboratory for analysis.

Based on the forensic findings, Campbell was arrested and charged on June 26, 2024. During her court appearance on Wednesday, her attorney, Donovan Collins, asserted that Campbell denies all allegations and has no prior criminal record. Collins also noted that he had not yet received the necessary disclosure documents related to the case. He indicated that once the disclosure is obtained, he will seek further instructions from Campbell.

Judge Reid granted Campbell station bail in the amount of $400,000, with the condition that she report to a specified police station on designated days. The judge also directed the court clerk to ensure that the defense counsel receives the required documents by September 11.

The case is scheduled for a further hearing on September 20, where additional developments are expected.
