Detectives from the St. James Police Division have formally charged 30-year-old Joseph McKenzie, otherwise known as ‘Geo’, with the murder of a man in Flankers, St. James, earlier this year.
McKenzie, a resident of Second Avenue in Flankers, is accused of fatally shooting 28-year-old Randy McNeil, a shop operator from Providence Heights in the parish, on Saturday, April 27. In addition to the murder charge, McKenzie has also been charged with using a firearm to commit a felony and possession of a prohibited weapon.
According to police reports, around 11:15 a.m. on the day of the incident, McNeil was walking along a roadway in New Road, Flankers, when he was ambushed by McKenzie, who was armed with a gun. McKenzie allegedly shot McNeil multiple times before fleeing the scene. Residents alerted the authorities, and McNeil was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Following a police investigation, McKenzie was arrested on Sunday, August 25, at around 9:00 p.m. at Harvey Beach, St. James. He was charged after participating in a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney.
McKenzie’s court date has not yet been finalized. The police continue their investigation into the case as they prepare for his trial.
