The St James Municipal Corporation (StJMC) has collected more than J$8 million from seven delinquent advertisers following enforcement action over unpaid fees.
Montego Bay Mayor and StJMC Chairman Richard Vernon said the payments were made between April 24 and April 29 after the corporation removed advertising signs belonging to companies that failed to settle their accounts.
The collection reduced the outstanding balance to just over J$8.1 million.
Vernon said the action became necessary due to increasing non-compliance, noting that the corporation relies on the revenue to maintain city operations and services.
Eight advertisers remain in arrears and are expected to receive further warnings as the StJMC continues its enforcement measures.
