A 68-year-old farmer has died days after he was allegedly attacked by his grandson at his home.
The deceased has been identified as Lawrence Smith, a resident of Middlesex District in the parish.
According to reports, Smith intervened at about 6:00 a.m. on Monday, August 3, after he allegedly saw his grandson, Raydon Hall, choking his granddaughter.
Hall reportedly armed himself with a piece of 2-by-4 board and struck Smith on his left hand, right arm and ribs, leaving him with bruising, swelling and severe pain.
Hall reportedly fled the area following the incident.
Smith subsequently went to the Lacovia Police Station and reported the matter. He was later advised to seek medical attention at the Black River Hospital, where he was admitted and underwent surgery on Tuesday, August 4.
A statement was taken from Smith while he was hospitalised on Wednesday, August 5.
However, Smith died at the Black River Hospital on Monday, August 10, while undergoing treatment.
Hall has not yet been taken into police custody as investigations continue
