SPANISH TOWN, St Catherine – Law enforcement officers have taken a 48-year-old taxi operator into custody in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in Spanish Town on Sunday.
The suspect’s identity is currently being protected by authorities as detectives continue their investigation into the disturbing incident.
According to official reports, the teenager boarded the public passenger vehicle in Spanish Town at approximately 10:45 a.m., intending to travel to the Angels area. The journey took a dark turn after the driver reportedly offloaded other commuters. Instead of continuing on the standard route, the operator is accused of diverting the vehicle into the Angels Grove Housing Scheme.
Once in the residential development, the driver allegedly locked the doors, trapping the minor inside the car before carrying out the assault.
The matter was formally brought to the attention of the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA). Following the report, the complainant underwent a medical examination, and a criminal probe was immediately launched.
The suspect was successfully apprehended after his vehicle was spotted and intercepted by members of the police Fugitive Apprehension Team. He remains in police custody pending further legal action.
