Donald Cameron, a 54-year-old sales clerk from Lakes Pen, St. Catherine, has been charged with obtaining money by false pretense in connection with an overseas employment scam. The incident occurred on Princess Street in Kingston in 2023.
According to police reports, Cameron introduced a man to an agency purportedly offering employment opportunities in the United States. Cameron allegedly instructed the man to pay $280,000 in cash, which the complainant did without receiving a receipt.
After numerous unsuccessful attempts to secure the promised paperwork from Cameron, the man requested a refund. Cameron agreed to return the money but failed to do so. A report was subsequently filed with the police, prompting an investigation.
Detectives made a breakthrough in the case on Monday, February 10th, apprehending Cameron and charging him with the offense. His court date is currently being finalized.
