34-year-old Charles Hall, was acquitted of murder charges in the St. Catherine Circuit Court on Monday after the prosecution upheld his claim of self-defense in the fatal stabbing of his father, Alscott Hall 64.
Reports are that, on October 1, 2023, a dispute between the two escalated into violence at their home. During the altercation, Alscott allegedly attacked Charles with a machete, inflicting a wound. Charles managed to disarm his father but stabbed him in the chest with a knife when his father attempted to attack again.
During the trial, Hall’s attorney, Davion Vassell, emphasized that Charles acted in self-defense. The prosecution was unable to refute this claim, especially since the post-mortem examination showed that Charles had defensive wounds, indicating he was under attack. Justice Yvonne Brown presided over the case and, given the evidence, ruled in favor of acquittal.
Hall had maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, insisting that he acted only to protect himself.
