St Catherine, Jamaica – A 44-year-old businessman from St Catherine has found himself in serious trouble with the law after allegedly collecting millions of dollars from customers to supply motor vehicles — but never delivering them.
Charged with fraudulent conversion is Lloyd Thompson, a businessman of Balmetto East Fort, in St Catherine. The charges stem from a series of incidents that took place between April and August 2023.
Reports reaching Mckoy’s News are that two men made hefty payments to Thompson for motor vehicles during that period. One complainant reportedly paid $2.4 million for a Toyota Coaster, while another paid $1 million as a deposit for a Toyota Hiace bus.
It is further alleged that after collecting the money, Thompson stopped answering the men’s calls and avoided further contact. When he finally spoke with them, he allegedly gave excuses that raised serious suspicion, prompting both men to file a report with the police.
Following investigations, Thompson was taken into custody in connection with similar complaints made in the Kingston police area. During an identification parade, both complainants positively identified him.
He was formally charged on Friday, and a court date is now being finalised.
